Because we are a family of 6 we do not go out much, about 99.9% of the time we eat at home. That other tiny fraction of the percent when we do go out I usually order the same thing (a favorite at whatever restaurant we are at). I have a little tradition with the kids, after their dentist appointments I take them to Wendy’s. I fell in love with the Southwest salad and I have been on a mission to recreate their dressing. In my opinion, this dressing is very close to the one at Wendy’s.
Ingredients for the Dressing
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp unsweetened nut milk
- 3 tbsp minced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp Santa Fe hot sauce (or 1 tbsp regular hot sauce)
- 2 tbsp minced onion (firmly packed)
- 1 tbsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 large garlic clove (crushed)
- 3/4 tsp smoked paprika (not pictured)
Instructions
1. Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix until combined.
2. Transfer to a mason jar and keep in the refrigerator.

How long does this last in the fridge before going bad?
Hi Melissa. I’ve had the dressing last 2-3 weeks but only because it got tucked in the very back, otherwise it’s gone long before that. It’s really delicious and doesn’t normally last long enough to go bad.
This tasted exactly like the Southwest dressing you would get at a restaurant. I made a salad similar to your photo, and topped it with this dressing, and it was PHENOMENAL!
Heidi I am so glad you like the dressing.
